Minesweeper with tools
A simple Minesweeper-inspired game with some improvements.
Works in browser on any device.
Key features:
- You can play minesweeper not playing minesweeper but just poking mouse/screen to win!
- Now you have tools to overcome 50/50 or any other problem
- It has protagonist (but it's barely better than original smile-man)
Controls:
- left mouse button / touch - open menu with default 'move' action
- right mouse button - open menu with default 'set flag' action
- double LMB / touch - move to cell
- double RMB - set flag
- gesture (straight line on cell with touch / mouse button) - set flag

neat game, but it'd be neat if the tools had more of a purpose? i've cleared like 4 boards in a row now without using them at all

Tools are more like auxiliary game mechanic to overcome frustrating issues of classic minesweeper - 50/50, first cell with 1 and so on. Less experienced players (like me when I started this project) can play minesweeper and use tools instead of puzzle but it's designed to be slower. Tools are not designed to replace puzzle.
I thought a lot about more real-life experience (e.g. wiki contains a lot of "potential mechanics" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demining) but it makes project a lot bigger. I may return to it in Minesweeper with tools 2 though =)
This is a fun idea! A few things that I'd like to see:
- If I fail, give me the option to close the game-ended menu so I can see where I went wrong
- Part of the slow-feeling of the game comes from how many additional clicks it takes to do regular minesweeper things. Ideally, I'd like to be able to place flags (and cycle them on to question mark and off) by right clicking a square and I'd like to be able to move quickly to a square by, say, double-clicking it. The left click menu is necessary for accessing the tools, but it shouldn't have to become the primary mode of interaction for the game.
- Numbers can be almost impossible to read if they land over certain types of vegetation

One note about right click - mobile doesn't support it, and even long tap frustrates much more than current game menu. I would like to introduce option (m.b. determined automagically) to enable right-click. But i need to figure out how to support some browsers with feature 'mouse gestures' which conflicts with right click (it usually throws you away from page if you use LMB and RMB at the same time).
This but on a hex grid please <3
I feel like this would be improved by adapting to a hex grid is possible.
Sorry, but hex support means total remake which I can't afford. Almost all assets and many algorithms need to be adjusted.
I love playing minesweeper, and this is a great game with this proposal, it's good to have tools that get you out of the 50/50 situation that usually appears at the end of the game, especially so you don't lose an entire field that you've already cleared, for because of the odds, I just wish there was a faster way to "walk" over the squares

Agreed, seems that movement is a bit slow, I will try improve it. Maybe introducing new game mode without protagonist at all, much more like in classic minesweeper.
